Abstract: In this talk I will introduce old and new frontiers for engineering novel correlated electronic phases in clean thin film platforms, including outstanding crystal growth challenges and methods to overcome such obstacles. In the context of oxides, I will discuss recent results on strongly correlated electrons that emulate the jellium model of free electrons, along with the spontaneous symmetry breaking transitions they elicit.
