Overview
Research in information theory at Caltech applies probabilistic tools to study a wide range of problems involving transmission, storage and manipulation of information, with strong links to optimization, statistics, control, learning, and wireless communications. Active research topics include coding for delay-sensitive and interactive systems such as those found in distributed control and computation systems; understanding bitrate and energy efficiency of computing systems and the impact of asynchronicity on computing performance; computing with stochastic circuits; and using unconventional sampling strategies to develop faster and more reliable parameter estimation strategies.
